WayV return with ‘On My Youth’
WayV have finally made their long-awaited return with the release of their second full album ‘On My Youth‘ and the title track of the same name.
The album ‘On My Youth’ comprises ten songs of multiple genres, including the title track, and presents WayV’s new music across various styles. This is the group’s first release in 11 months after their fourth mini-album ‘Phantom‘ in December 2022. The new concept, musical style and their performances have been drawing fans in and the anticipation for this release was palpable.
The title track ‘On My Youth’ is a song that is full of longing, deep emotions and regret of a love that once was. It’s described as a medium-tempo ballad track that encompasses a whole host of musical elements such as classical cadence, strings, and hip hop drums.
Personally, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting from this track, but to say that I’m impressed, might just be an understatement! Long-time followers of All Access Asia, know that I can never find fault with anything that TEN does, but this may just be one of his most impressive performances yet – he even appears in the clip as a boxer!
However, the vocals from all members are stunning and an absolute highlight, they soar and meld into the instrumental, but they are also heartbreaking and emotional. The song starts slow and low whilst it builds throughout the track, wrapping you up in the drama, the atmosphere and the emotion. This is WayV flexing with the best of them, stretching their wings and their vocals. It’s impressive and beautiful and I like the direction they’re heading in.
